Two Weeks In London

WARNING! RANT AHEAD… DO NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY!

I thought I would be in a good mood to write. I thought I would bring my blog up to speed. I thought the late night Eurostar would be a perfect place to get my head in gear and put my reflections and experiences onto digital paper. I didn’t really think that through so well.

St Pancras 019

As I write this, I am sitting in seat 73 of carriage 18 (yes 18/19, it’s a big train). I am red faced, and listening to Rage Against The Machine (angry music). This is because for the third time, I got shit from the UK Border Agency. I have entered the United Kingdom three times in my lifetime, once in 2007, once two weeks ago (April 2009), and today, the 10th of May. Every time I have presented myself at the border, I have been greeted… Wait… grunted at, which translates to “Hand over your documents” by a sour faced, paranoid, cold toned, glorified security guard, who clearly has no hobbies. There is no time for pleasantries when a young Australian male, clearly here to break the law, do drugs, sleep with the women and stick it to the clearly superior motherland, is at the border.

RIP – Conservo @ Prahran

Monday, July 7th, 2008

From The Age… dated June 26 2007…

“Smorgon heir puts money into green service stations” “At a tiny service station in High Street, Prahran, under the brand name Conservo, Mr Edwards and his business partners will start selling E10 (unleaded petrol blended with 10 per cent ethanol), B20 (diesel blended with 20 per cent biodiesel) and B100 (100 per cent biodiesel) to the public. E10 is suitable for use in all petrol vehicles and both the B20 and the B100 can be used in standard diesel engines. The fuels all have claimed lower carbon emissions than standard petrol and diesel.”

I drove across to Prahran today to get a haircut. For me, a normal trip to Prahran would be via public transport, as that side of town is congested, busy and has little parking. But i remembered this morning that my car, a 1994 Toyota 4Runner (3.2lt 4 cylinder diesel) was low on petrol, so i made the decision to drive and select one of the two diesel fuels on offer at Conservo. The two fuels on offer were (more…)

Only 6 hours left…

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

This post is rather symbolic really. I turn 21 in just over 6 hours time and this post is the first on my new blog. Is this a sign of a new adult era? Or am i just being crazy?

The most wonderful thing

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I receive many many phone calls each day, and most of the time i hate answering my phone, it brings bad news, or people wanting things. Today; today was different. I had been looking on Facebook at a comment made in the VCA Group; it was about the launch of a new arts venue, called the Hayloft. I contemplated emailing them and offering assistance, but I had work to do, so I didn’t. 30 minutes later, a phone call; from Eva, from the Hayloft.

I am now meeting with them, to co-ordinate the evening, the launch, the visual and audible aspects. I am so amazingly excited about the idea of working with such a virgin space, and with people at their peak, and to create a first impression on the people who enter the space. I have the opportunity to draw them into the space, to keep them coming back, to get them interested in the space, conversing with the space.

This is why I do this crazy unsustainable work, because it gets my blood pumping, my mind working and I get a rush. Who needs drugs, when you have art.

London (Day 4)

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

We woke up pretty late considering our planned day. Neither of us can help it… Elle is exhausted and the bed i am sleeping on is the most comfortable i have seen in over a month, I’m catching up on lost hours! After Elle taking 2 hours in the bathroom, we set out, destination, Buckingham Palace. We took the bus then the tube (central line) to Green Park Station. We wondered through Green Park to the Palace. It was quite plain to look at, and I found myself more fascinated at the guards, police, military and security personnel that at the actual palace. Thats not to say I didnt get a photo of me in front of it. (more…)

London (Day 2)

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Reg took me out today for a bit of a tour around some of his favorite spots. We started at Hyde Park, which we got to via bus via Shepards Bush. It was huge and very plesent indeed. We took some photos of the squirrels and saw the Peter Pan Memorial. I also had a look around a gallery just within the park. It had some really contempory work, which I enjoyed. We saw the palace in the gardens also, and walked through the streets, stopping off a few times at some good local pubs that Reg knew, and of course having a beer. We had lunch in a pub where several famous people were known to drink, and I had steak and ale pie, very very good!

London (Day 3)

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Well… Today… I once again didn’t do much… I’m sorry people, I’m on holidays, can you blame me???

I woke up late and got hooked on a certain website on the net called LinkedIn… Essentially it’s a Professional Facebook, where you put your job history on it and it becomes a kind of online resume/job sharing and finding service. Find below, an extract of what i wrote for the union, as a kind of review for it… (more…)

London (Day 2)

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Reg took me out today for a bit of a tour around some of his favorite spots. We started at Hyde Park, which we got to via bus via Shepard’s Bush. It was huge and very plesent indeed. We took some photos of the squirrels and saw the Peter Pan Memorial. I also had a look around a gallery just within the park. It had some really contemporary work, with lots of projectors, which I enjoyed. We saw the palace in the gardens also, and walked through the streets, stopping off a few times at some good local pubs that Reg knew, and of course having a beer. We had lunch in a pub where several famous people were known to drink, and I had steak and ale pie, very very good! We then continued on through the city, as Reg pointed out the places that they have stayed and good places to visit. (more…)

A rainy day in London

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Well, i slept for 14 hours, only waking up once, when Elle got home from work. The poor thing is working 12 hour night shifts and then on her days off, is working another job at the local pub. So she essentially does nothing except work and sleep! She is wrecked and is showing it. Reg and I have been trying to talk her into calling in sick one of the days and having a social life, but so far to no avail! I woke up and had Vegimite toast, and tea! I then sat on the Internet for the afternoon, emailing people and labelling my pictures, viewable at www.flickr.com/photos/geordieb (more…)
