About

My name is Geordie Barker, and I am Freelance Designer and Technician living in Melbourne, Australia. I recently graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts, after successfully completing a Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Production). During my time at the VCA, I specialized in the areas of Lighting / Sound Design and Technical Management. I have also worked as a Stage Manager and Production Manager. I am currently working as a Freelance Designer and Technician for a number of companies here in Melbourne, both corporate and artistic. I am currently overseas, and as such this site has become the home of my travel blog.

toilet art!

A great piece of toilet graffiti, found at VCA.

To the people that know me, I am the resident nerd, and general technological problem solver. I am very interested in the way that technology can be integrated into daily life, and into my work in the arts. Over the years I have collected and experimented with a wide range of gadgets, ranging from first generation digital cameras, to PDAs, to laptops, two way radios and beyond. My standard collection of gadgets includes an Apple iPhone, Macbook Laptop, Nikon D80 Digital Camera, Chumby Internet Radio and Fossil Digital Watch. It is not these consumer items that define me, it is the images, videos, sounds, designs, words and interaction that I can foster, create, facilitate, manipulate with these items. A snapshot of family christmas, a written account of my overseas travels, chatting to friends in other countries. I choose to embrace the functionality that these devices and channels of communication give me.

Playing with light and a digital SLR.

I started this blog on March 15th 2008, one day before my 21st birthday. I have always liked the idea of having a public blog, and have held a few free ones here and there, but its not quite the same as having a domain name and your own hosting. On this blog i hope to share my experiences in a wide range of fields, roughly including technology, politics, travel, the arts and general observations on the world around me. Please feel free to comment, question, correct and argue with me.

Thanks for stopping by,

Cheers!

Geordie
